Strengths: Nice screen, fast
Weaknesses: Nothing so far
Overall Evaluation: I have had this unit as a refurb for about a month - using it daily while my desktop was getting fixed. It has been reliable, providing solid performance, perfectly fine. I have a 12" portable also and have been using laptops since 1986. I never go top of the line, as I find mid line, much more affordable with little compromise. If you want a nice looking, reliable computer with a lovely screen that you can count on this will serve you. I have gotten 3.5 hours out of the battery doing everything during that time.

Strengths: Beautiful look, well built, affortable price, fast CPU
Weaknesses: could better with XP
Overall Evaluation: I can't believe this Sony laptop sells for only $650. It looks beautiful and feels very solid. It even comes with Core 2 Duo and a 160GB hard drive. It more looks black rather than brown. I don't care about its small memory because I upgrade it to 4GB regardless. Great buy!

Strengths: Intel Core2Duo Processor, Sony quality
Weaknesses: Memory
Overall Evaluation: This is an excellent notebook PC. It works great and looks very nice and has Sony brand name. I got it on a sale ($599 after rebate) at OfficeDepot, I think for that price, it is a excellent notebook. The only problem I can think of the 1GB RAM, I would have preferred 2GB RAM.

Strengths: Sony's Quality, Good configuration for less Price, Best for normal users.
Weaknesses: No webcam, Booting time is more, less single toutch buttons for Entertainment, plastic body.
Overall Evaluation: I bought this laptop for $830 with $150 Mail In Rebate. I purchased it only because of Sony's brand name and they really satisfied me. The quality of Sony LCD screens and keyboards are amazing. It works fine with videos, images, and while surfing the internet. The battery life is okay, almost 2.5 hours with max brightness. The Core 2 Duo 1.5Ghz processor, 160GB and 1GB RAM makes the configuration looks good for this price and best for normal users. Vista Home Premium suits well with this system. The resume from standby is comparitively fast. Coming to the drawbacks there is no inbuilt webcam, it contains lot of preloaded SW hence the booting time is more. There is no shortcut buttons for entertainment and falls short when compared to HP. For cost cutting Sony made the body cover of plastic with no metal buttons. To conclude if you love Sony quality for affordable price then go for it but be sure to compromise something. I would rate 4/5.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: It is sony.
Weaknesses: Not solid. A little bit too heavy. Color is just OK.
Overall Evaluation: Sony has good quality. I like the design of the notebook. But I am a little disappointed by the quality of the material. Look like a plastic but heavy. It would be better if it is the other way around: light and metallic. But for 599+tax, how much can you expect? Good one, I think, at least up to now.

Strengths: Slick Design and attractive Sony design in a 15-inch format; decent specs, including 160GB hard drive.
Weaknesses: 1 GB ram make the laptop really slow. Pretty heavy to travel with. Slow performance compared to other Sony VAIO's.
Overall Evaluation: I liked the laptop, the color is beautiful. My wife liked that a lot. Slick Sony design. I got it for 650. It was a good deal for this laptop. If you're looking for a 15-inch wide-screen laptop that offers affordable quality , VAIO VGN-NR160E/T is the best choice.
