    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Comes close to actual Photoshop in its power; more than enough for a serious amateur

Weaknesses: Crammed with features that you will never learn to master unless you get some actual teaching

Overall Evaluation: I like the charcoal-colored background when in "light table" mode, but beyond that cosmetic change, I don't see any earth-shaking feature upgrade compared to version 5. Still the most full-featured, widely supported and affordable alternative to Photoshop proper.

    Duration of ownership:3 Months

Strengths: Much simpler user interface (compared to Elements 2.0); guides available to assist you with common image issues (red eye reduction, sharpening, etc.); Magic Extractor function is neat

Weaknesses: Runs more slowly than earlier version; still some complexity associated with certain program functions

Overall Evaluation: I bought Photoshop Elements 2.0 when it first came out and found that it was quite powerful but had a steep learning curve. With Photoshop Elements 6.0, Adobe has greatly simplified many of the program's more common functions to reduce that learning curve significantly. Adobe has really improved the functionality of Photoshop Elements, and I strongly encourage those of you who are still using PE 2.0 (as I was) to pick up this version. You won't be disappointed.

    Duration of ownership:

    Strengths: Easy-to-use interface. Intuitive.

    Weaknesses: Slow start-up time.

Overall Evaluation: I recently upgraded PC to Vista and, like everyone else, I was surprised to realize that I needed to upgrade all my software. This upgrade was relatively painless, though. This newest version of Photoshop Elements is quite similar to my previous 3.0 version. I am not a photo software expert. I purchased this primarily to enable loading my photos on my iPod. This program does fine in that respect and has more than enough functionality for what I use it for.

Strengths: Best photo software in its category

    Weaknesses: lacks user manual

Overall Evaluation: It is my first photo software and it seems to have about everything a home user would need and then some. However, since it is not really intuitive a user manual should have been included. Learning curve is quite steep. A separate manual beefs up the price by about 20-30 dollars, depending upon the place of purchase.

    Duration of ownership:2 Months

Strengths: Good imaging editing options for the money.

Weaknesses: Online help files, some learning curve issues if not familiar with Adobe Photoshop.

Overall Evaluation: If you don't want to spend upwards of $600 for the full Photoshop product, but want some good image editing options, this is probably all you need. Integrates well with my Canon scanner software.

    Duration of ownership:30 Days

Strengths: Powerful editing, organizing, and sharing software, with many of the photo editing capabilities of the much more expensive CS3.

    Weaknesses: none

Overall Evaluation: I downloaded the 30 day free trial from Adobe to see what I thought of this software. It did not disappoint me. I would highly recommend this software to anyone using a digital camera, and looking to get more out of their photographs. Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 is easy enough for a novice to use, while still being powerful enough for advanced amateurs and budding professionals. I am loving it more everyday. M.S.

    Duration of ownership:1 Weeks

Strengths: Highly intuitive, easy to use.

    Weaknesses: None so far.

Overall Evaluation: I am a novice at photo editing and this software is packed with features which could have been pretty intimidating, but as usual Adobe finds a great balance. If all you want to do is crop and re-size, it is easy to do. If you are interested in a full-feature product that can allow you to manipulate a photo just about any way you can think of, this is your product too! Very happy with it.

    Duration of ownership:1

Strengths: Has all the commonly used features for a digital photo enthusiast. Adobe generally releases decent software--not using the customers as beta testers.

Weaknesses: Nothing I can think of.

Overall Evaluation: I have been a photoshop user for over 10 years. I bought the new version to replace version 4.0, which has served me well. Even though the word element might implie a "lite" version, it has all the functionalities for pretty serious digital photo editing, great value for the price.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Easy to useExcellent interfaceDoes what I need it to do

    Weaknesses: None at this time

Overall Evaluation: I had been using some other software to do phot retouching. In fact, I had been using 3 different programs. None of them could do everything I wanted, but they were reliable, cheap/free, worked fine. I started to get more serious about my photography recently, so I decided to upgrade to a more modern program. Photoshop itself is a great program, but too complex for me at this time. The Elements version is just fine, and more powerful than I expected. Handles .RAW files just fine, and is much better than the software provide by the manf. of my new DSLR.Highly recommended for beginners as well as serious photographers who do not want to commit the time and money to Photoship CS3.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Three skill levels for editing, from quick and easy to fully advanced, all very easy to use. Adequate help files.

Weaknesses: I haven't found any yet.

Overall Evaluation: Having upgraded from Elements 2 to Elements 6, I am totally pleased with the new features. I especially like the new layout and the new, dark gray window makes the photos really stand out rather than having to compete with the brightness of a white background.
