Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Large Size, 3 Year Warranty, Runs Quiet and Cool. Perfect drive for Media Center storage.
Weaknesses: Not so great performance.
Overall Evaluation: Western Digital again delivers a good quality product. Many people may complain about the performance of these drives though. It's a variable speed drive which many people may not like for their main desktop drive. These drives are the future, so get used too it. Most drives made in the past few years have the ability to be slowed down for heat/energy/sound issues. It's just that the option wasn't easily adjustable by consumers. (Google "Automatic Acoustic Management") I purchased four of these for use in a Media File Server which will be running 24/7. The reduced power usage (up to almost 50% over other drives) and the reduction in heat that goes with it is what encouraged me to purchase these. Compare the energy consumption on WD's site and you'll see these drives use about the same amount of power as a 120-250GB drive. If you are interested in speed, you might consider some other product.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Drive runs quiet and cool, 3 yr warranty
Weaknesses: 16 mb cache - slightly slower perf
Overall Evaluation: Drive was easy to set up and runs quiet and cool at 5400 rpm. Green drive saves on power and runs perfectly in the NAS box in RAID 1 config with a small tradeoff in performance (not your best option for a boot drive).

Duration of ownership:1 Days
Strengths: Very good packaging, seems it is a factory sealed
Weaknesses: I do not see any weaknesses yet.
Overall Evaluation: Very good value for a money paid.As it was promiced by site, it is a new, factory sealed 1 Tb internal hard drive bundled with full back up software.I hope it will work the way it was described.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Low cost, high capacity, solid performance
Weaknesses: Not the fastest (if you care about that sort of thing)
Overall Evaluation: Western Digital has really hit a home run with this drive. It's by far the cheapest 1TB drive on the market (typically $25-$75 than the others), it's very quiet, and out of the 6 I've purchased in the last two months NONE have had any problems. It also consumes less power, meaning it produces less heat. It does so through a variety of technologies but also (mainly) because the drive spins slower than competitors. But don't let this fact dissuade you, as the drive 1) is still very fast 2) the speed won't make any difference if you are putting it an external enclosure (USB/FireWire become the bottlenecks there) and 3) the penalty will only be noticed [maybe] if you are running it in a RAID where every millisecond of performance matters.A great buy!

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: big, cheap, quiet, efficient
Weaknesses: it is what it is. not for very high performance, lower rpm than other 1tb drives to save energy, but as far as storage and hd video playback go, it\\\'s great.
Overall Evaluation: I\\\'m playing large HD (.mkv) media files in Vista without a problem. It\\\'s nice and quiet on my media center pc. I don\\\'t use it for anything else. I\\\'m no hard drive expert, but as far as looking for a nice, big, quiet drive to shove into the 3.5 spot in your case, it\\\'s a beauty. after losing many files thanks to externals, I\\\'m happy to put something in that\\\'s a little safer and efficient. apparently it saves energy by only moving the rpm\\\'s up to the level they need to be. averages, i read, are about 5400, but i guess it can max at 7200 if need be. i wouldn\\\'t suggest for gaming performance, maybe not even to run an os on, but as far as storage goes, i\\\'m in love.
