Strengths: it's fast
Weaknesses: can't run software
Overall Evaluation: My kids have at least a dozen computer games, and not a single one will work on Leopard. I have no idea how to find new games for them that will work.

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Screen sharing, improved Finder and file sharing
Weaknesses: Still somewhat buggy, incredibly fugly folder icons, translucent menubar
Overall Evaluation: Anyone familiar with the history of Leopard knows that Apple rushed it out the door. Based on the poor quality of the beta releases about a month prior to release, no one expected Apple to meet its self-imposed deadline, yet somehow Apple managed to fix things up enough to get Leopard out on time. The initial release showed signs of its rushed development. With the 10.5.2 update, most of the glaring problems seem to have been addressed, but little, annoying bugs still persist. For instance, sometimes clicking on the desktop doesn't register, and it won't switch you to Finder.Leopard offers quite a compelling set of new features. My favorite, by far, is screen sharing, which allows you to easily use and control one Mac from another. If you're familiar with VNC, you already know what this is, but the new interface makes establishing the connection effortless. Time Machine makes backing up similarly effortless; however, its reliability is not yet at the point where I would suggest people rely on it as their only backup method. Finder is much improved ? it really couldn't get much worse ? but it still has room to improve.Overall, Leopard is a worthy upgrade, but it's still not one I'd recommend for everyone without reservation. Perhaps in an update or two further down the road, that will change, but for right now, users need to weigh the benefits of the new features with the possible headaches of dealing with Leopard's quirks.

Strengths: Nice operating system. Works well. Stable.
Weaknesses: Not many interesting applications built into the operating system.
Overall Evaluation: Leopard is a nice operating system. It works well, is stable, and the graphics and user interface are cool. The operating system does not come with many interesting applications though. You are going to want to buy iLife and either Microsoft Office or iWorka to get the most out of the OS.

Strengths: Simple Install. Nice new features.
Weaknesses: A work in progress, but Apple seems to be listening to the users with the latest update (10.5.2)
Overall Evaluation: I have installed this easily on two of our Macs thus far, an Aluminum Powerbook G4, and a PowerMac G5. I've also updated to 10.5.2. The install went smoothly, and everything seems to work just fine. I got installation tips from the major Mac web sites and print magazines. Customization to my liking has also gone smoothly. I'm still learning to customize the new Spaces to what fits my use best, but I really like how it sweeps groups of applications in and out of view depending upon what you're doing, keeping down the clutter associated with multiple applications open.

Strengths: On time delivery, great pricing
Weaknesses: none to my knowledge
Overall Evaluation: First time buyer from this site. Been here quite a bit viewing products, to compare pricing and made my decision to purchase Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. It was fast, easy and on time delivery. Couldn't beat the price, best I found on a reliable and safe site. It make your decisions easy to make when you find what you want!

Strengths: Using coverflow
Weaknesses: Spaces could work better than it does.
Overall Evaluation: Leopard is a very worthwhile upgrade. It runs faster on all my Macs then Tiger did. Coverflow with Quick Look works great. Finding other Macs

Duration of ownership:
Strengths: new features: Dock Stacks, Spaces, Time Machine; OS stability
Weaknesses: Installation
Overall Evaluation: I have installed this on three computers and have had problems with the installation for all three. The only solution was to backup data, completely erase the disk and do a clean install. On a G5 tower this was a very time consuming trial and error process. (On my MacBook Pro 2.33 Intel Core 2 Duo I wasn't even given the option of an installation upgrade or archive and install, only erase and install. This may have something to do with the Intel chip.) Unfortunately, this erase and install procedure is not explained well in either the Read Me installation instructions or in Support on the Apple website. Aside from that frustration, the software itself is superb, and a much more significant upgrade than Tiger (10.4) was. The new features such as Dock Stacks, Spaces and Time Machine are all great additions. Spaces is really useful for managing multiple applications, while Stacks help with both access to documents and folders and a much less cluttered desktop. The 5- user family pack is a tremendous value compared to the single license. Overall, I highly recommend Leopard as an upgrade.

Strengths: Install is very easy but is taking longer than I expected as if gives the option to check on the quality of the CD to be uploaded. Price for a family pack is very reasonnable
Weaknesses: Did not find any yet for a non power user.
Overall Evaluation: Highly recommend for those like us that have original OS X on one of their Macs. I am confident that small issues associated with software compatiblity will be addressed very shortly either by Apple or software vendors. I would love Intuit to deliver on a compatible Quicken product.

Strengths: Extremely easy install, fast operations, no activation crap
Weaknesses: Some minor niggling bugs, but nothing show stopping
Overall Evaluation: Apple has released what is hands down the best OS out there on the market. The install is quick and easy, there are no activation/phone-home restrictions, and the system overall is very snappy in everyday use, even more so than the previous Tiger on my Macbook Pro laptop purchased July '07.Lots of great new applications and feature enhancements that I will not go to (just go to the Leopard page on Apple.com for the overviews). What is apparent is that the OS developers went over the whole OS with a fine toothed comb to refine, enhance and polish just about every aspect of the system. Everything from the new subdued look and feel, to information content of various system settings and applications has been updated and polished to a sheen that no other new OS out there currently can match.Bottom line is that this is a must have upgrade for Macintosh users.

Strengths: Consistent look for all windows, integrated several smaller programs into the OS, Data detectors are handy
Weaknesses: Lots of bloat (9GB minimum requirement!), obvious revision A bugs, some usability compromised by poor aesthetics
Overall Evaluation: Overall, this release was over-hyped. However, Time Machine alone is worth the cost. I have run into several bugs that just come with the territory of new software. Common programs like MS Office, iWork, and Firefox work fine. However, skim (3rd party pdf editor), Screen Sharing (built in; replaced my Chicken of the VNC and Jollysfast VNC), Spaces (built in; replaced virtue desktops) sometimes loses windows, and whatever service discovers other computers on the network (mDNS) tend to crash or just not work at all. This won't likely affect everyday users, but as an administrator, these things stand out. These are easy things for Apple to fix in their first update. I wish Quick look--as helpful as it is!--would allow zooming. Some documents look too small in quick look. The opaque menu bar is hard to read if you have a dark picture as your background. Most people might want to wait for the first update or wait for their favorite software companies to release leopard-compatible updates. EyeTV just updated their software last night (2.5.1) which improved Leopard compatibility.
