    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Improved speed for core 2 duo; Spaces; View

Weaknesses: For some reason, Nikon Transfer is not compatible with Leopard. Sometime, my Mac freezes and have to restart to fix it.

Overall Evaluation: There are many new feature for the new OS Leopard. I will only explain what sold me. 1) Speed: After switching from the old OS Tiger, I noticed a noticeable change in speed when I process my pictures with Nikon Capture NX. Not a big difference, but noticeable. 2) Space: it lets you have designated space for each group of programs (say: CS3, Nikon capture, and Noise reduction in one space while Safari and iTune in the other space). Switching from one space to the others is very simple (just control + arrow)3) Viewer: it lets me view photos right from file browser and let you see adjacent ones, too. Other features are not selling points for me. Improvement is speed is the most important I see.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Sleek User-Interface, Quick OS, Apple

    Weaknesses: New Software, Few Bugs

Overall Evaluation: The new leopard OS X 10.5 was installed on an original Macbook 2.0ghz, 2gb RAM. Install was very easy and Everything works well. The overall feel of the OS is very fast, much better than Tiger. The new features are very nice, particularly Spaces. Allow user to have several different desktops to separate tasks and work areas. Time Machine appears to have great potential but limited functionality. Backup via a networked hard drive would be great addition. Being that the software is new, it is not without a few bugs. One of the main problems I have experienced is IMAP and Mail.app. Mail does not appear to be compatible with my email server but hope that the problem is fixed in 10.5.2, as 10.5.1 made no change. Besides that glitch, Leopard is very stable and usable.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Fast, Brilliant, Better than MAC OS X Tiger!

Weaknesses: A little Buggy. Could mess up non-Apple applications. Wait for Update 10.5.1

Overall Evaluation: I had to re-install it on my iMac Core 2 Duo 2GHZ with 3gb RAM. The second install was successful and everything ran as expected and fast! But then I ran into a glitch when Leopard no longer ran a couple of my non-Apple programs. It was quite frustrating especially if I used Onyx (Maintenance) regularly so I will have to wait for the update of Onyx.Apple has just updated Leopard to 10.5.1 yesterday and from what I read in a few of the Apple forums some Macs did not work properly. If anyone decides to upgrade to Leopard I'd suggest you wait a few more weeks to see how this is reviewed and go on from there. Updates may not always be good for us so read about the details before doing. Also I would advise that users prepare their Hard Drives before installing Leopard. So far I am happy with it and learning a lot about this version of the MAC OS X. I think it was worth my while.

    Duration of ownership:1 Weeks

Strengths: Unified UI, faster than Tiger, Time Machine

    Weaknesses: Minor

Overall Evaluation: This is a great update to OSX, and on the surface, probably the biggest one relative to a prior release since 10.1. Tiger introduced many under the hood improvements, but Leopard with Spaces, Time Machine, etc. really is what Tiger should have been. The first thing I liked was the unified UI which Apple has lacked for some time. Brushed metal is gone and everything has a single look - except for the scrollbars in iTunes. Time Machine is great - a real no excuses backup option that is very very easy to use. Spaces and Stacks are nice, but not the stars of the show here. The OS is also snappy on my MacBook Pro. Now things I don't like: The dock - Apple went too crazy with the reflections and the application running arrow is now a barely visible blue orb. It can be changed with a hack, but come on Apple. Also, Time Machine can't back up to an AirDisk. Nor do we have ZFS write capabilities.Overall, this is a very nice update and I think this is more should own than Tiger was.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: A lot of new features, not expensive, reliable.Easy upgrade from 10.4 Tiger.

    Weaknesses: not so far

Overall Evaluation: I love most the new feature "spaces" with Parallel desktop. I can switch the window without reboot from OSX to Windows of full screen easily. It looks like there are two Computers in one Macbook. And I like new Finder with Cover Flow.
