Strengths: NONE
Weaknesses: You can not accurately cut, strip, make, paste, or do anything with this software
Overall Evaluation: I have yet to make a movie from any one of a number of home recorded VHS tapes, virtually ever time I try I get an error, there is nothing I can do to fix I have spent HOURS trying, customer support SUCKS they do not answer the questions only provide links that do not tell you anything, I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS SOFTWARE at any pricce including FREE, it is EXTREMELY and I repeat EXTREMELY SLOW in everything it does. DISAPPOINTED -- By the way I got the software bundled with an I/O Drive that is distributed by the same people and when it installs - it installs as a GENERIC Drive???? Go figure, I gues they can not get anything right. MY Recommendation is DON'T!! DO IT !!!

Strengths: Has all the features necessary, i.e., capture from DV camcorder, titles, transitions, trimming, burn to disc, etc.
Weaknesses: Crashes, slow, lack of features.
Overall Evaluation: The software crashes way too often. Have to save with every little thing done because of how much it crashes. The program window goes off the screen on my widescreen laptop, so have to change my screen resolution to get it to come back. One assumes the program will be smart enough to stay on the screen no matter what screen resolution is used. While there are a good number of transitions, most of them have to be purchased separately or else you are penalized with a watermark. Competing software vendors just give you the transitions for free, so I do not consider Pinnacle to give their customers good value for their money. Rendering takes forever, and you start all over if the software decides to crash after you have waited forever. My system has 512 MB RAM and a Pentium M 1.4 GHz processor. While this is not the fastest PC around, the Pentium M 1.4 GHz processor is comparable to a Pentium 4 2.2 GHz processor, so the slow rendering is disappointing. Used to run it on a system with Pentium III 1 GHz, so blamed my PC and not the software. Now it's time to blame the software for slow performance and not my PC.

Strengths: Some not many.
Weaknesses: Allot, support, audio, and so on.
Overall Evaluation: Started out ok then after about a week of editing it happend. I lost my audio and when I try to redue the audio it captures it from cd then shows an error and shuts down. Cant seem to find a fix support stinks. I guess they advertise well get your money and run. Wish I never bought it but I still have a customer waiting for his product. Wish I read the reviews before I purchased it. Put some of the money into support instead of your fat butt in your big house.

Strengths: The alluring packaging it comes in
Weaknesses: Speed, frustration
Overall Evaluation: I had this program for some time before finally using it. Out of 12 trys to get a 57mb mpeg, it locked up 8 times. I finally got it by making smaller captures, then combining them. It is painfully slow. The lockups occur when you stop the capture. Then everything freezes and you lose it all.I will never recommend this product to anyone

Strengths: Everything in one software, from capture to edit then to tape, dvd, minidv, vdcd or computer file, super cheap for an excellent tool
Weaknesses: If you want to do video in your computer and you don't want to expend big money, you have to learn how to configure your computer, the software and hardware depend on it. This is not Office or Pacman.
Overall Evaluation: I been working with the software for long time with ups and downs, and in general once you set your computer properly and update the software, it works fantastic, but if you don't know how and you don't want to learn, you better go in other direction, because multimedia in general, requieres some technical knowleage, but the pay back it's great, at least for me. You won't learn in two hours the first time could take you a day to get something, if you need something fast, there is a video software inside windows OS.

Strengths: Editing tools
Weaknesses: (uknown error) get use to this, bc you will experience this many times on many functions of the program. sometimes you won't even get this. it will be spinning its wheels and creating smoke.
Overall Evaluation: What problems does this software not have, unknown errors up the ying yang, freezing up like I am working with a clown, unlimited amounts of downloads and updates. countless hours of uninstalling, installing, rendering. should not be like this, but it is. sure wish they would fix this program.

Strengths: None that I know of....can't get it to run.
Weaknesses: Cannot get to open or run on windows Xp.....Pinnacle support is terriable...keep writing, all I get is to use there updates to correct problem....but nothing works!
Overall Evaluation: Had this software for near a month and still won't operate right...Have a friend who's been in to computer repair and support for over 20 years...he built my computer with the purpose of mainly using all it's capablities towards picture capture and video capture and editing....Well he couldn't get Pinnacle to run either...They may have won awards and got great reviews from the magazines, but I have had no luck with getting it to run with my windows XP...They state on there support site that problems exist, give updates to down load, but nothing seems to get it to work ....I'm at a lost, their support is weak. Now need to find a different program..... suggestions anyone!

Strengths: Easiest to use of all home video editing softwares.Best titles & transitions of all home video editing softwares
Weaknesses: Easy to crash, freeze & lose project before saving.Rendering process is painfully slow!
Overall Evaluation: If Pinnacle Systems can come up with studio 9 (currently 8.8 version) that can just correct the above weaknesses, they will win back the whole home video editing market in no time for sure! I'm very interested in their 'Edition 5 version' but still hesitate to buy.Currently I use Studio 8.8 to capture video & edit it intoa DVD-compatible Mpeg2 project then use Ulead movie factory 2.0 to add menu and burn the project on DVD. So far so goodthank God!!! Be careful, Studio & Ulead Movie Factory don't'like' each other very much, NEVER run the two at the same time! Never!!!

Strengths: Nice box that it came in. Easy to install.
Weaknesses: This software has too may weak spots that can crash, freeze up and just flat loose a lot of work. All for a simple reason or no reason.
Overall Evaluation: I purchased Movie Box with Studio 8 included. I purchased beacause I was told that it was beter than the Dazzle System. I also added Ram, a new 128mg video card and a additional hard drive. I am running an Amd 850 cpu and Window 2000. When previewing the project it kicked me out of the program. I found out that it was caused by Quick time Program.I deleted that and it solved the problem. I can not get a clean finshed project on a Cd. I also can even get a finished project on a Vcr tape. This is not a simple program and I bought it hoping it would be simple abd fun. Wrong, it is not easy to use and there are too many items to change and check for a new user like me. I just wish I had all my upgrade money back.

Strengths: Easy and fun to use.
Weaknesses: Takes a lot of memory.
Overall Evaluation: I installed this on a windows XP machine no problems. Be sure to get the lastest update on their WEB site. I have converted old VHS tapes of my family to DVD. The old tapes had color problems I was able to correct these problems as I captured. It was easy to insert transitions, titles and menus. I used the voice over feature and added background sound. It all worked Great.
