    Overall Rating: 2 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:6 Months

    Strengths: How would I know

Weaknesses: Installation, from the provided CD, hangs, every time.

Overall Evaluation: I've spent a lot of time trying to install the software provided on the CD. It hangs, apparently for no reason. No network activity -- so it's not waiting for a download; no disk/CD reader activity -- so it's not reading media.Software installed fine on my wife's XP Pro; refused to install (ever) on my Windows Mediacenter.

    Overall Rating: 2 Star Review

    Duration of ownership:22 Months

Strengths: All in One, everything there. While some dislike the software, it worked fine for me and I liked how well it installed. Of course, I had the G85 before and it was a nightmare. Network is great.

Weaknesses: All in one, if one thing fails, it is trash. Doc feeder is too frail and jams frequently. I had to work on it several times. The 7210 died at 22 months and is now trash.

Overall Evaluation: Good points:__Networking worked well and seamlessly. Running both network and USB connections had no issue, other than the USB connection could not be found about 20% of the time.__I liked the software. The scanning was easy. The OCR worked well. Pictures scanned well. Printing was good. __Pictures printed well, with good color and clarity. __I liked scanning pictures. The thing would even do real one-button scanning, which the old Officejet G85 promised but couldn't do. __The fax worked well in the beginning, but we did have a few problems getting it to connect and go through a month ago. Also, it had issues picking up lately.__HP Chat was always available. ______________Weak Points: Reliability. That is something HP meant years ago with LaserJet. We have a 13 year old LaserJet that still runs, after countless cases of paper through it.__The 7210 is too fragile and frail to be real. I'm afraid I'll break it each time I open the printer to replace ink cartridges. About 20% of the time, my computer can't find it, even hooked on the USB. __The document feeder is jamming or not feeding most of the time. HP guys told me how to take it apart to get it running a couple of times, but the sad part is, it is just too weak and frail to be of any real good. It is definitely unreliable, and isn't the point of a document feeder so you can set a stack in and let it run?__Sadder is that real faxing requires the document feeder and any real copying requires it, too. __Printing has had a few problems, too. If you run into issues, try power off, hold # and 6, plug in the power cord and turn on. Wait for Semi-Full Reset or something like that. If it is software, you may get it running again. __HP chat is available, but they are not too in depth in troubleshooting. Or it could be that there isn't anything to troubleshoot. They know it either works or is dead and that is about it. Disposal items. Buy, use, throw away. So far, no one really showed a lot of technical expertise except one guy who did clue me on how to work on the document feeder. Everyone else would leave me on hold for a long time and give a few basic steps before saying it needed HP Service.__Today, it died completely. Turned it on, all lights began flashing. Reset won't work. 22 months old and it is now worthless junk for the dump. __HP gave me a "great" offer of "upgrading" to a 7310 for only $299. Considering the 7210 and 7310 are virtually the same, I can't see paying $300 for a machine that will last 2 years at most and it already 2 years old.__They didn't offer any of their others, meaning they simply want to unload their old unsold junk on victims like me.__Can I recommend the 7210 or HP? No!

    Duration of ownership:1 Years

Strengths: All you need in one piece of equipment

Weaknesses: If you have a problem you can loose everything

Overall Evaluation: I purchased the HP 7210 because I thought that I would get quality and service - how wrong can you be. The printer is just 18 months old and has a page count of 1320 and is only used for light domestic use. Recently I started getting an error message indicating that "the cartridges were not intended for this printer" - I did think that this was a little strange as it had functioned perfectly on these cartridges for some months. Thinking that the cartridges were at the end of their life I changed them and this rectified the problem for 2 pages when the message appeared again. I thought that I may have had faulty cartridges so I changed them again only to experience the same problem. I then went through the HP Help Desk who told me to clean the contacts and reset the printer - when this didn't work I was told to change the cartridges again. When this didn't work I was informed that it was a hardware problem and that I should contact a Premium Rate Help Line. Realising that all they were going to do was to make more money from my problem I decided to contact Customer Services who were sympathetic but indicated that there was nothing they could do as it was not a known problem. A search on the Internet soon revealed similar problems from other owners - so much for an unknown problem. Consider my experience of HP against that of Bosch when my Dishwasher malfunctioned. It was two years old and out of guarantee when I had a problem and I called out their Service Agent who diagnosed a faulty thermostat - this was replaced but did not cure the problem. I rang Bosch who indicated that the problem that I had was quite rare and it was down to a faulty motor - I thing they heard me gasp as I could imagine that it was going to be expensive - "don't worry they said we will replace the motor and refund the costs that you have already incurred - we would not expect a motor to fail in this short space of time" - it was replaced and a cheque was sent within 3 days and the washer is now perfect. I think you can probably guess who I would deal with in the future - not HP that's for certain.

    Strengths: Network-connected printer/fax/scanner

Weaknesses: SCANNING! and software in general.

Overall Evaluation: I agree with the comments about bloated software and especially scanning and the poor support by HP. I finally figured out the problem on my own (not sure if this will help anyone else): HP Director's scan program is incompatible with Symantec/Norton's firewall. If (and ONLY IF) I disable Norton's firewall protection temporarily can I get the scanner to work. Now about the bloated software... have you seen the size of those modules?! And you can tell when you try to use it - press a button and light a cigarette (or go for coffee, etc.). Nuff said. Hope this helps someone.

Strengths: Good concept. Has everything you need.

    Weaknesses: Short life span

Overall Evaluation: I am on my second 7210. First one had the faxboard go in less than one year. It was replaced under the warranty. Now the second one - which is 7 month's old is constantly flashing an error message either that the ink cartridges are not compatible with the printer - which they are (new HP's own brand) or all the light are flashing and there is an error: 0x07d 54dd6. I have done everything that HP support has suggested and everytime within the hour of getting off the phone the printer is in an error condition again. btw I just hung up after waiting on hold for over 30 minutes for a support rep. I am hoping this time they will relent and replace this one too!

    Duration of ownership:14 Days

    Strengths: Networking, Fast printing, All-in-one

    Weaknesses: Just bulky

Overall Evaluation: Before I bought this I looked online at the reviews, and I was a little scared about the scanning, especially since I was using it on my wireless network. I'm not sure why everyone had so many issues with scanning. Mine works great! ...and I can do it via wireless from my laptop. The printing speed is great, just set it on "draft" which most of my documents for customer's is good enough quality. I probably wouldn't do it for a presentation though.

    Duration of ownership:1

    Strengths: None

Weaknesses: Does not easily connect to the network

Overall Evaluation: What good is network printer/scanner if it cannot scan when connected to the network. Just locks up, and gives an error that the printer cannot be found. Funny, though, it registers and IP address found even inside the HP software. Junk Junk Junk. Do not but this scanner if you are looking for a SERIOUS document scanner. Perhaps this is why the manual only has 3 pages on scanning. this product is not meant for a small office - this is meant for the home user that does not require serious scanning. My policy with HP is that if it does not work immediately out of the box - I send it back the next day. Crap Crap Crap.

    Duration of ownership:2 Months

Strengths: Nice printing, faxing and copying; and I love the duplxing.

    Weaknesses: Software installation; Scanning.

Overall Evaluation: Two (2) months ago I bought the big-daddy of the 7210: the 7410 (it seems to be virtually the same unit with some add-ons). Folks, I wished I'ld gone out to the Internet and fully researched HP and its problematic scanning issues first. Bad scanning experiences abound! Googling "HP AIO scan problems XP" will yield over 60,000 hits! I'm a bit surprised that PC World's reviewer didn't run across this scanning issue.I've spent about 20 hours on HP's on-line chat support service (including their phone support team; by the way, it seems these 2 services don't share their records). Because of the installation difficulties, HP also offered to and did send me a replacement printer (refurbished, of course). And I am thankful. However, I am experiencing the same problem with the new unit.Oh, I can print, fax and copy and I'm well-pleased with this unit's abilitites as to these 3 functions -- but they are supposed to function well, aren't they? However, I still have no scanning ability. If you require scanning, I recommend you thoroughly check this printer's scanning ability before you buy. I'm sorry I didn't. It seems my only hope now, after trying numerous uninstalls/reinstalls, etc., etc., is the ability of HP's Level Two support team. Until then, scanning isn't part of this unit's multi-funtion capabilitites.Perhaps you'll have a better install(s) than I did and the unit will work well for you. I hope so. I also hope my experience is an anomaly. I've had really good HP equipment in the past and want to be able to depend on a brand like "HP".

    Duration of ownership:40 Days

Strengths: integrated functions: ethernet interface, memory card reader, fax, paper feed (for fax/scanner/copier). Also very fast. Compatible with MacOS & Windows

Weaknesses: Software: instalation takes forever and is a bit complicated to deal with. Using memory card reader through the network is very slow

Overall Evaluation: The integrated ethernet interface allows sharing the printer/scanner/memory card reader easily to different machines through the home network, although memory card reader is a bit slow. A very good deal if you have more than one computer at home and want to share all the printer's functionality to them, which is not always possible with an external printer server (some of them only allows sharing the printing functionality....)
