Duration of ownership:1 Years
Strengths: Capacity, clarity, and programmability.
Weaknesses: None.
Overall Evaluation: This is the fax machine everyone should have. I've sent out sixty-five faxes, one right after the other with absolutely no jam-ups or errors. Received faxes are crystal clear. I now have two in the office.

Overall Evaluation: I was looking for a reasonable priced Laser Fax. I found this for $99 and am using since 4 months. I was happy with the purchase and bought another one last week. I use it as a copier, printer and fax. Works great so far.

Strengths: Reliable
Weaknesses: that I didn't get more at first
Overall Evaluation: We have three of these in the home office and two more in each of the branch offices. They are a sturdy, reliable machine for the volume we use them for. I orginally bought seven of these when we upgraded our systems and kept several of our older fax machines and now wish I had gotten all of them at once. The other fax machines are always causing problems while this little model keeps plugging away doing the job we asked of it.

Strengths: Convenient, multi-function
Weaknesses: None so far.
Overall Evaluation: The Brother FAX 2820 is a convenient multi-function machine. It allows you to fax, copy, and print in laser quality. If you have a small office or home office, this is must-have, since it's relatively small and priced below $200.

Strengths: Easy set up, refillable toner, large paper capacity (250 sheets), good-size memory.
Weaknesses: Starter toner cartridge, 14.4 speed
Overall Evaluation: Set up from the box was simple and easy. The phone cord to the handset is a little short, and the design leaves no place for the cord to go. I just left the handset on the machine and removed the cord since I don't plan to use the fax machine as a phone. Minor complaint. Not much toner in the starter cartridge, and it would have been nice to start with a full capacity cartridge. In looking at replacement toner on eBay, it appears that you need an additional gear or parts to use the starter cartridge as a refillable one. So far I haven't explored most of the features, but without reading the manual the fax machine was set up and working in a few minutes. Very little assemply required.Ingoing and outgoing faxing - no problems. Prints very well. Good value for stand-alone fax machine for home or small business.

Strengths: Easy to use, relatively small foot print, set-up with use of the quick setup quide
Weaknesses: User manual was written for 4 different multifunction machines sometimes making it difficult to know whether the instructions applied to the 2820 or not
Overall Evaluation: I finally broke down and bought a dedicated FAX. I decided that I wanted a laser FAX because I didn't want to deal with inkjet inks. I also wanted a plain paper one. I asked one of my friends what she owned and she told me that she and her family owned several different FAXes over the years and all of them had problems. I was about to talk to some other friends, when I remembered that I had just faxed several things over the last two weeks at my local Staples store. The machine that they had was easy to use and didn't take up a lot of space. I didn't know if I could afford that unit but I called the store to find out what model they were using. It turned out to be the Brother 2820. That was another reason that I bought the 2820: if Staples is using the 2820 for its self-service FAX station, I decided that it had to be a good unit. If it wasn't then Staples would constantly servicing it and would replace it with a different unit (because if the FAX didn't work, then they wouldn't be making any money with the Fax service). Nice machine. Everything is accessible - no hidden/hard to reach knobs, plugs, doors. Set up was relatively easy -- follow the quick set up guide and you're done in less than 10 minutes. Nothing was cumbersome or klutzy to setup. I've only used it to make two photocopies. Nice and quick -- and beats getting into the car to run to Staples/OfficeMax/OfficeDepot. When I faxed from Staples, the unit was easy to use and worked fine. Someone else mentioned the $30 rebate which brings the list price down to $170. Some of the big box office supply stores are offering another $30 off (in my case, it was Office Max) and free shipping. My final cost after sales tax will be around $150.

Strengths: USB 2.0 printer interface, phone, copier,
Weaknesses: 14.4 modem speed, instead of 33.6.
Overall Evaluation: This is a quality multifuction fax machine, which contains fax, phone, printer w/USB 2.0 interface, and copier. Quality laser print output. It only has a 14.4 modem, but this is sufficient speed- if you want higher speed modem get the Brother 2890 or Canon Faxphone L80. I would not go below a 14.4 modem fax. Easy install and user friendly, with LCD status display (very helpful).

Strengths: Good memory capabilities, good quality copies and prints.
Weaknesses: Wish the modem was 33.6, instead of 14.4.
Overall Evaluation: This laser fax allows you to scan into memory while the line is in use. This fax also has a printer, with an internal USB 2.0 interface. I like the button layout on the fax-- very user friendly. Fax, print, and copying is good quality laser. The front loading high capacity paper tray is an added plus.

Strengths: Quick. Clear transmission
Weaknesses: Pauses while each page is being fed through. Poor paper output tray. I find most of my faxes on the floor.
Overall Evaluation: Worked great after 4 weeks then started miss sorting my faxes and copies. Very bad receiving tray. Most of my faxes end up on the floor if its greater than 8 4 pages. No problem with the machine, just poorly designed I did not have these problems with the 2800.
