    Duration of ownership:60 Days

Strengths: Cheap, good look design, simple to use

    Weaknesses: The HFA100s don't work !

Overall Evaluation: I bought two HFA100 units . They died after one month . 1- No picture when you turn the unit on . You have to power off and on by unplug the core. The remote control did not work at the time . 2- If you scan the channel, it die (freeze) then you have to unplug the power and plug it back . 3- I spoke with the technical support, they admitted that the units are bad . I return to the seller one unit (buy.com). Another unit is over 30 days old, so HUMAX will replace the new unit. However, I call HUMAX today, they said "Back order, you have to wait" . My suggestion is : Don't buy this HFA100 now .

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Great price point, easy to use menus and setup. On screen guide (like satelite or digital cable).

Weaknesses: Changing channels is a littls slow.

Overall Evaluation: This receiver was very easy to setup and connect to both my home theater system (via optical cable) and to my HDTV (via HDMI). Using HDMI keeps the signal digital to the TV as well as allowing the TV to select the optimal resolution for displaying the content. I just had to plug it in and let it search for channels. Highly recommended.

    Duration of ownership:8 Weeks

Strengths: Good clear picture and user interface

Weaknesses: Freezes many times using HDMI cable

Overall Evaluation: I think that the manufacturers needed to do a little more work on this one. The freezing problem is annoying because it's impossible to get the darn thing working again unless one unplugs it for a period of time and then plugs it back on. When the unit feels like working it does a good job. Buyer beware, however. I would look elsewhere, unless I were willing to work out the kinks.

    Duration of ownership:

Strengths: Easy setup, great HDMI connection

    Weaknesses: None

Overall Evaluation: Finally an HD tuner that won't break the bank. There are so many HD ready televisions sold but very few HD tuners available. I tried the HD package with my local cable provider and all I got was 5 HD channels for an extra $10/month. If I wanted ESPN it was another $5 per month. Now with this tuner I get 20 HD channels. The cable company's tuner only supported component cables but I wanted the HDMI/DVI hookup because the picture is better. Better colors and better real life images. Don't spend a lot on the cables, go to pacificcable.com and order your DVI/HDMI cables from them. Top quality. I bought a 5 meter (16ft) cable that is HDMI on one end and DVI on the other (because my Olevia tv is DVI) for $42. Monster cable wants $95 for 3 feet. Buy this tuner, you won't be disappointed.

    Duration of ownership:10 Days

Strengths: High performance, low price, good design

    Weaknesses: not found yet

Overall Evaluation: I bought this one from Amazon for about $150, a great price for an HDTV receiver. I have an in-door HDTV attenna and an olevia HDTV display. They works great together. The set-top works even if it only receives 60% of signal strength. I read reviews for the porpular one from samsung(SIR-T451). They said the samsung has to get up to 90% of the signal to work. At this point this Humax is better than samsung. Another thing is that people said it's slow to change channels using samsung. I have no experience with samsung. But this Humax changes pretty fast. I also like the remote. It feels very good. Both the receiver and the remote look good - good design. I would give it five stars! Highly recommended!
