Tip: Extend Battery Life
Just because your notebook battery juice is drained after 2 hours doesn't mean you should be left high and dry. Valence Technology's N-Charge Power System weighs under 2 pounds, sits under your notebook, and provides from 5 ($199) to 10 ($299) extra hours of battery power, the company says. First Look: FlipStart
Vulcan's FlipStart, expected to ship later this year, is a tiny Windows XP computer that looks more like a big PDA than a petite notebook, says PC World's Harry McCracken. The 1-pound FlipStart packs a Windows PC into a 5.8-by-4-by-1-inches device with a crisp, colorful display. It runs a 1-GHz Transmeta Crusoe processor; and it has 256MB of RAM, a 30GB hard drive, and built-in 802.11G wireless networking. Pricing was not announced at press time.
News: Dell Gets Game
Dell has released its first notebook for gamers. The new Inspiron XPS offers a zippy processor, high-end graphics, and top-quality sound, according to the company. Prices start at $2849. Among its playful specs: a six-speaker sound system with subwoofer and a 15.4-inch UXGA screen. Customers can buy updated graphics cards when they become available, Dell says.
