Xbox Media Center for OS X Debuts

Open source developers working on a Mac port of the Xbox Media Center software have released version 1 of the software.

XBMC is software that's designed to run on a first generation Xbox. It's a free multimedia player for the console which can be used to play/view most common video, audio and image formats.

This v.1 release offers full screen support and regular video playback, but isn't yet a full-fledged mass market application, not intended for general use.

The software has been made available for download through the development team's Wiki page, reports TUAW. While easy to install, the application may not yet be fully stable, that report warns.
