Job-matching site today released its ranking of those positions most in demand on its site from November last year through this month, and to my surprise, Sales Rep/Business Development came out on top:

1.    Sales Representative/Business Development.
2.    Software Design/Development.
3.    Nursing.
4.    Accounting & Finance Executive.
5.    Accounting Staff.

Less surprising were Software Design and Development at second and Nursing in third place - we all know how much demand there is for pros in both fields.  But experienced sales reps are more sought after, at least according to Jobfox's data.  The site suggests that the sluggish economy means companies are forced to fight harder for market share, and therefore put a premium on good reps.

Jobfox bases its ranking on its own job postings instead of an full market survey, so take it all with the appropriate grain of salt.  The report says its rankings are "based on a stratified random sample of more than 4,000 U.S. job openings posted on Jobfox. More than 150 distinct professions are analyzed."

The full report (pdf) has a list of the top 20 professions, along with a listing of the median salary for July's most sought-after employees.
