Rock Band 2 has shipped for Xbox 360 and is scheduled to be available today, weeks (if not months) before Wii, PS3, and PS2 versions, Electronics Arts announced.
Three bundles will be available at launch: the game only (US$60) compatible with previous Rock Band instruments, Rock Band 2 standalone wireless guitar ($70), and Rock Band 2 standalone drums ($90).
"Rock Band 2 and Harmonix are raising the bar in the music game category again with an incredible 100-song setlist, innovative online features, and new authentic instruments," said Bob Picunko, vice president of MTV Games. "With over 300 songs available via weekly downloads, no other music game can compete with the Rock Band 2 catalog."
New to Rock Band 2 is backwards compatibility and migration of every Rock Band 1 song, online World Tour, daily Battle-Of-The Band tournaments, auto-calibration to eliminate TV lag, wireless drums, velocity sensitive drum pads, support for up to three cymbals (sold separately), improved voice detection, No Fail Mode for newbie players, and a real Drum Trainer. Notable artists featured in the sequel include AC/DC, Guns 'N Roses, Bob Dylan, and Pearl Jam.
GamePro will have the full review of the Xbox 360 version by the end of the week. PlayStation 3, Wii, and PS2 versions will follow later this year upon release (Q4 2008 according to Electronic Arts).
