Dimdim has announced the release of Dimdim 5.0, a new version of the open-source Web conferencing/meeting system.
Dimdim provides a framework for delivering live presentations, whiteboard presentations and Web-based info over the Internet, including voice and video. The developers claim it's easy to use, requiring no additional software (except a Web browser plug-in if you want to share your screen). A free version is available, along with Professional and Enterprise versions.
New to the 5.0 release are features like improved screencasting, based on Adobe Flash 10. Webinar "widgets" are automatically created whenever you schdule a meeting, and they can be shared on any Web site, via Facebook or Twitter and can allow other users to register for Dimdim Web events using one click. More than 300 performance enhancements have been made to this release, and registration reports have been added that list the name and time of everyone who's registered for an event.
Dimdim "Pro" accounts have been moved to a new dedicated server farm with more resources, and a new monthly payment option is now available.
