MCE Technologies has announced that it's shipping its 8X Blu-ray Recordable Drive for the Mac. It costs $429.

The drive is intended for internal installation in Mac Pro and Power Mac systems. It has the ability to burn Blu-ray, DVD and CD media. It can burn Blu-ray discs at up to 8x speed, DVD+-R media at up to 16X and CD-R media at up to 48x.

The drive is natively compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later and can record directly from the Finder without needing additional software. You can create Blu-ray movie discs using the drive with separate software such as Adobe Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro and Roxio Toast 10 Pro, though the Mac currently lacks the technology needed to play back store-bought Blu-ray Disc movies.

MCE also offers a version specific to 2009-era Mac Pros and an external recorder equipped with USB 2.0 and external Serial ATA (eSATA) connections.
