Medal of Honor Reboot Dated, New Trailer Released

Medal of Honor

We've known for some time that Electronic Arts was planning to reboot its military Medal of Honor military shooter series, and now we know when. Look for Medal of Honor--that's right, just 'Medal of Honor'--on October 12, 2010 (and October 15 in Europe).

With the formal release date comes a new trailer, titled "Leave a Message," which you can view on the official game site. In it, a U.S. Army Ranger platoon plunges into combat while one of its members dials his family back home. I haven't seen the trailer, so I'm assuming the phone call's a flashback overlay (or intercut) since--call me crazy--I don't think you're getting a tower out in the middle of Dangerzone, Afghanistan, any time soon.

"Medal of Honor is an authentic look into today's war," writes the game's executive producer Greg Goodrich in the press release. "Inspired by real people and real events, the game puts players in the boots of today's warrior--from the infantry ground pounder to the Tier 1 Operator."

"We are proud of this [trailer] because it offers a glimpse into the game we're creating, while also showing the mindset of these warriors."

EA says the game's single-player campaign has the help of 'Tier 1 Operators' from the U.S. Special Operations Community. That means guys who may have worked on or around any number of special forces projects, from hostage rescues to dozens of other dedicated "focus" objectives. They're involved because this marks the first Medal of Honor to exit World War II and bring the franchise forward to modern-day Afghanistan, where you'll play as a Tier 1 Operator, "an elite warrior and relatively unknown instrument of the U.S. Military that operates under the National Command Authority, taking on missions no one else can handle."

Can Medal of Honor (the reboot) out-Call-of-Duty Activision's Modern Warfare 2? Anything's possible.

Just no "No Russian" funny business tarnishing your gameplay for the sake of attention, 'kay EA?
