May the Flash Be With You
Never mind a specific date; the whole month of May is synonymous with Star Wars. So, in a final nod to The Empire Strikes Back’s 30th anniversary, consider storing your stuff on one of these five flash drives from Mimoco, purveyors of the Mimobot flash drives with character (including four other Star Wars series).
Like the other characters appearing in the Star Wars Series 5 drives, we first met the beady-eyed, scrap-collecting Jawas in Star Wars: Episode IV, A New Hope. All of the Mimobot drives, including the Jawa, come in four capacity varietals. Starting price is $29.95 for 2GB; add $10 for 4GB, and $20 for 8GB; but the jump to lightspeed, er, 16GB, will cost a whopping $89.95 (quite a premium over more mundane and nondescript flash drives).
Yes, this is the droid you're looking for. (The Jawas had him for a while, before selling him to the Skywalkers.) The R2-D2 flash drive complements the previously released Star Wars Mimobot Series 3 C-3PO drive. Like other Mimobot drives from Mimoco, R2 comes with a fun collection of R2-esque desktop icons and avatars, and wallpapers, too. My favorite: R2 memory standing alongside Jawa memory.
The suite of characters in Series 5 really does make sense when you consider them together. R2-D2 once belonged to a Jedi Knight named Obi-Wan Kenobi. Favorite wallpaper here is a toss-up: Obi-Wan trying to shut off the tractor beam, or Obi-Wan battling the Darth Vader flash drive. I just wish his cap was a bit easier to remove (a common lament across the series).
Stormtrooper Unmasked (Luke)
Yes, he's a little short for a stormtrooper. Well, maybe not in flashland, but the line remains a classic. Underneath the particularly tough-to-remove Stormtrooper helmet (er, flash drive cover), you'll find Luke Skywalker's visage staring back at you...or...
Stormtrooper Unmasked (Han)
...you may instead find behind the mask everyone's favorite Corellian hotshot pilot, Han Solo. Either one you get, the included wallpapers are especially nifty. (Ah, which to choose--one with a row of stormtroopers in front of the Millenium Falcon; with Darth Vader in the background; or with Chewbacca and Princess Leia in the garbage compactor?) Sadly, of those other classic characters, only Darth Vader Unmasked remains available for sale (along with Darth Maul, Wicket, Royal Guard, and Clone Captain Rex).
