HTC One V at a glance

The HTC One V debuted alongside its sibling phones, the One X and the One S, at Mobile World Congress back in February. This week, the One V made its first U.S. appearance at the CTIA show in New Orleans.

I got to spend a little more time with the One V during a one-on-one briefing with HTC during the show. The One V will hit the U.S. this summer, and it'll be available through multiple carriers. Rumor has it that the HTC One V will come to low cost or prepaid carriers like MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile, and U.S. Cellular, but we’ll find out for sure this summer.

The One V looks a lot like last year’s HTC Legend, with a unibody aluminum design and a slightly curved lip on the bottom edge. It has a 3.7-inch display with a 480-by-800 resolution.

Like the other One phones, the One V has built-in audio enhancement for music and YouTube videos courtesy of Beats Audio. It has a 5-megapixel camera, as opposed to the 8-megapixel cameras found on the HTC One S and One X phones.

Despite the lower megapixel count, the camera has the HTC ImageSense software, which comes with a variety of shooting modes like HDR, continuous shooting, and macro. It lacks a front-facing camera—and because the One V has a single-core processor, it can't shoot 1080p video. Still, in my quick hands-on of the camera, my photos looked pretty good despite the shoddy lighting on the show floor.

The One V might not have the most cutting edge specs, but it runs the latest version of Android and has a durable, premium design. It might be a lower priced Android phone, but doesn’t feel cheaply made or outdated.
