Sometime back in 2009, Uncle Milton released the Star Wars Force Trainer, a nifty toy that makes use of electroencephalography (EEG) technology to give people a glimpse of what life as a Jedi could be like. When you strapped on the toy's headset and concentrated hard enough, a fan would turn on and propel a ball along a plastic tower in a weird simulation of telekinesis.
That's totally fine and dandy (and entertaining in its own way), but a couple of dudes from Louisville, Ky., recently took the idea to a whole new level.
According to Gizmag, Chris and Brad of Kentucky-based hackerspace LVL1 hacked a Force Trainer and transformed it into a melon-destroying monstrosity that would make Emperor Palpatine at least moderately proud. With the help of the Force Trainer, an air compressor, and Arduino-based electronics, those lucky enough to check out the dynamic duo's custom set-up will be able to detonate large, spherical fruits with sufficient concentration. Chris and Brad named the creation Mind over Melon.
Currently, it looks like there are no plans to make a commercial version of this, but who knows? This may well change in the future. For now, if you're game to test out your Sithly skills of destruction and live somewhere in the vicinity of Louisville, this may be an excellent time to visit LVL1 and find out where they'll be exhibiting Mind over Melon next.
