Forbidden Planet

Welcome to Monday's edition of GeekBytes, where we round up random geeky odds and ends we spotted today. We start the week with clever cat GIFs, smog-eating pavement, and something for Angry Birds and Star Wars fans combined.

Another kind a Felix falls through space [b3ta]

When someone told Tom Johnson that Felix had jumped out of a capsule from near space, breaking three different world records, he must have thought of the wrong Felix. Tom crafted a GIF of a Siamese cat looking around the capsule and leaping back down to Earth. It’s funny no matter how many times you let it loop! [via Boing Boing]

A Chicago road will eat your dirt [Girst]

A 1.5-mile stretch on Cermack Road in Chicago will now eat smog, thanks to the photocatalytic cement used to pave it. The special coating is made up of titanium dioxide particles, which help remove the nitrogen oxide gases around it and in turn reduces smog. [via Gizmodo]

Angry Birds and Star Wars fans unite, and cuddle [Forbidden Planet]

While the upcoming Angry Birds Star Wars app might not be out until next month, you won’t have to wait much longer to get your hands on something themed around the game. Forbidden Planet will soon stock a 12-inch Angry Birds Star Wars Stormtrooper that's ready to join the rest of your geek toy collection. You can pre-order it for $29, and it'll ship in November.
