OnLive and LG announced Thursday that LG's G2 Series Google TVs will come with a built-in OnLive app for cloud-supported, console-style gaming. The new app will be delivered to current LG G2 Series owners as an over-the-air update that rolls out Thursday; the app will be preinstalled on upcoming retail models. This is the first time OnLive’s cloud-based console gaming will come automatically built-in to an Internet-connected television.

OnLive features such games as Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Side Meier's Civilization V and Homefront: Ultimate Edition using OnLive. You don't need a console to play games but you do need OnLive's special $50 controllers. OnLive games can be purchased or rented just as you would with a console disc, or you can subscribe to OnLive's $10 per month PlayPack that gives you unlimited access to more than 200 games.

The built-in OnLive gaming app for LG's G2 Series Google TVs was first demonstrated in June during E3.

In a bid to popularize the gaming service, OnLive has focused recently on integrating its offerings into popular or trendy hardware including a $100 set-top box from Vizio and the oft-discussed Ouya gaming console. The service also garnered controversy in August after OnLive fired most of its staff and then announced it had sold itself to an unnamed entity in a corporate restructuring bid after nearly going bankrupt.

Beyond OnLive gaming, the LG G2 Series will also be the first HDTVs to get a new Google TV update announced Wednesday, according to LG. The features include a revamped TV & Movies app, now called PrimeTime, that lets you search online and broadcast showings of movies and television episodes. You will also be able to pair your Android device with LG's GoogleTV to send YouTube clips to the larger screens.
