Jason, Armando, and Alex W. hold down the podcast fort after the departure of Carlos, who left to run his own production company. The trio manages to focus almost entirely on The Last of Us, an epic PlayStation 3 game.

Despite some well-deserved gripes about loose combat mechanics and troublesome camera placement, The Last of Us is a gorgeous, bleak, disturbing game that manages to frighten you without cheap jump scares. The story absorbed everyone here in the office who played. In other words: tune in as we attempt to sell you on a game that will make you feel terrible (in a good way!).

Links from this episode:

  • The Last of Us takes place 20 years into the outbreak of a mutated cordyceps fungus that turns humans into mushroom zombies with Jacob’s Ladder-esque stuttered movement. The concept was creatively inspired by scenes in Planet Earth that show an ant being attacked by the fungus.
  • We’ve got great shows you might want to stream. Armando is soaking up Aaron Sorkin’s writing on Sports Night and The West Wing, Jason’s catching up on Dexter, and Alex W. has been delving into Gary Hustwit’s documentaries on esoteric fields of design: Helvetica (typefaces), Objectified (everyday objects), and Urbanized (how to make a city).
