Tips got news source Reuters moving on a rumor that EA wanted to buy Angry Birds developer Chillingo. EA's Director of Corporate Communications confirms the report.

In a statement provided to Reuters, Holly Rockwood said, "By acquiring Chillingo, EA Mobile is increasing its market leadership on the Apple Platform as well as reaffirming its position as the world's leading wireless entertainment publisher." Reuters says she declined to name the price. The $20 million Reuters uses in their headline comes from an anonymous source.

We've reached out to EA to find out when the deal goes down. During its last quarterly earnings report, the company only called out Scrabble for the iPad as a digital performer. Likely, EA hopes games like Chillingo's wildly successful Angry Birds will bulk up those numbers.
