Gamewatch: Mario Sports Mix, You Don't Know Jack, Dungeons

Mario Sports Mix (Wii) hit my mailbox late last week, and while I haven't had a chance to try it, I can tell you it's definitely a Mario game with, you know, a sports mix. Looks like basketball, hockey, dodgeball, and volleyball, plus a few variants, and the usual tongue-in-cheek Nintendo mascot gameplay. If you're up for competitive or cooperative play, local or online, it looks like this one has you covered, even if it's already been covered, repeatedly. ETA: February 7.

To play Jellyvision's brillliant You Don't Know Jack (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS) with my family back in the mid-1990s, I'd rig a VGA to RCA connection from a desktop running Windows 95 to our "big" screen (32-inch) not-so-flat CRT. That, and a PS/2 (nothing to do with Sony) cable extender to get the keyboard to reach the couch. The "buzzers" were three keys, over which our hands would hover before stabbing down to tackle gibberish questions, fill-in-the-blanks, anagrams, and the series trademark DisorDat. The version out this week is all new, includes Kinect support, and features as your host the one, the only, Tom "Cookie" Gottlieb. ETA: February 8.

Sure, Dungeons (PC) looks like a Dungeon Keeper ripoff, except for the part where it's not. In Dungeon Keeper, you cultivated fiendish scamps and scalawags to gobble invading heroes. In Dungeons, you tend to the heroes themselves, working to ensure their hack-and-slash satisfaction by keeping your dungeon up to snuff. SimDungeon by any other name, developer Realmforge Studio's Bullfrog flip received a warm reception in Germany when it launched January 27. We'll see how it goes this side of the pond. ETA: February 8.
