If you work in a stressful cubicle environment, Blissive's Natura Sound Therapy may well save your sanity. This unique program gives you access to 30 soothing soundtracks that you can mix and match to your taste, plus a Brainwave Synchronizer that Blissive says can enhance your mental focus and produce states of relaxation.

You could just play around with the settings--choosing sounds, background images, and visualizations on your own--or you could work your way through dozens of factory presets, with or without the Brainwave Synchronizer turned on. Either way, the sound quality is excellent and the visuals are soothing. Natura also includes a Relaxation Module plug-in that provides background music like Piano or Native American Flute; other plug-ins are available on Blissive's Web site.

Natura Sound Therapy is easy to use and well designed. I enjoyed listening to the presets as well as my own creations--but though I did try out the Brainwave Synchronization, I can't say that I noticed any effects (except that a few of the tones were headache-inducing).

The current version of Natura Sound Therapy works on PCs and laptops only; you can't export your relaxation routine to an MP3 player, for instance. This is unfortunate, because Blissive touts its program as being useful for soothing babies, helping adults get a full night of sleep, and deepening meditation--and I don't know many people who have a computer set up in the bedroom or take a laptop to the yoga studio.

Another drawback: This program is expensive. After the 7-day trial period, you need to pay $50 for a single-user license (volume discounts are available, as is a professional licensing program for spas, yoga studios, and the like). Natura's high cost may turn off many potential customers--which is a shame, because regardless of whether you subscribe to the Brainwave Synchronization theory, this program is a very pleasant addition to a workday.
