It all sounds daunting, but developers Cylekx.net have included several wonderful tutorials. In only a few steps, you can animate a piece of artwork across several frames and with several beautiful effects. The tutorials allow experimentation with tile motion, animation, indexed images, and so on.

One very annoying bug cropped up. After testing Cylekx thoroughly and then rebooting, I was unable to open the program again. It said there was a second instance running, and Cylekx doesn't support multiple instances. Only problem is, I had just rebooted, and nothing in the Task Manager qualified. Only a complete uninstall and reinstall got it going again.

The nice thing is, Cylekx doesn't cost anything at the moment. The Web site refers to a pay professional version with even more advanced features, but correspondence with the developers reveals that this version isn't yet available to the public, as they are still working out a merchant solution. In the meantime, version 2.6 is not limited or restricted in any way, so go nuts. Once that bug is out of the way, that is.
