Transmute is a simple utility that allows you to copy bookmarks from one browser into another. It's a tool meant to make it easy to try different browsers and keep your bookmarks, and both the copied to and copied from browsers must be installed on your PC.

Transmute can work with Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Chrome, Safari, and Chromium. You can choose the name and an optional timestamp for the folder for your transferred bookmarks, or put the transferred bookmarks alongside existing bookmarks (into the root folder).

If you copy to or from Firefox 3, you'll need to close the browser first so that Transmute can access the database used to store bookmarks. Otherwise you'll get a cryptic error message.

As most browsers have built-in options for importing bookmarks from other browsers, Transmute is likely most useful for getting bookmarks into IE (which lacks such an import option). It could also be useful if you often bounce between browsers and want more options, such as choosing the destination folder name, for your transferred bookmarks.
