Gobby

Programmers who collaborate on projects will welcome Gobby, a free piece of software that combines a programming editor with IRC-like tools for chatting and working with others on documents. It offers the kinds of features you'd expect in an editor, including syntax highlighting, Unicode support, and the ability to create multiple documents. To that, it adds collaboration features, such as chat, and document synchronization.

If you're not a programmer, there's no need to download Gobby--there's nothing you'll use it for. And if you're a programmer who works alone, there's no need as well. But anyone who collaborates on programming will find it well worth the download.
