A month of milestones
Quantitative milestones have been a marketing staple since long before McDonald's began counting burgers. So when I saw recently that Huffington Post was boasting of having hosted its 100 millionth comment, I did a little searching to see how many of these pronouncements I could find ... over just the past month. Here are the more notable ones. They range from a mere million on up to 15 billion.
Garry's Mod, a sandbox physics game, was released in December 2004 and debuted on Steam two years later.
The Hubble Telescope
The Hubble Space Telescope started that count in 1990.
Twitter launched in March 2006.
Waze Mobile, developer of this free crowdsourced GPS application, was founded in 2008.
Foursquare started this location-based mobile check-in stuff at South by Southwest Interactive in Austin, Texas in March 2009.
Musicnotes.com has been hawking sheet music since 1999.
Obviously, this is notable primarily to 9-year-old girls, so I included it for my darling Emma.
The first Yelp review was penned in 2004.
No one really knows for sure, but that's the latest best guess for the Google social network that launched June 28.
WordPress has been cranking out blogs since May 2003.
TripAdvisor has been on the road since February 2000.
Pandora Internet radio has been on the air since 2000.
The first HuffPo comment was logged May 9, 2005.
Instagram has been helping iPhone users share photos since Oct. 6. 2010.
BlackBerry's app store
That's since BlackBerry App World launched in March 2009.
Apple's app store
