SugarSync, the popular cloud service for syncing data across computers and mobile devices, has redesigned the interface of its desktop app to give users a more streamlined experience, the company announced Thursday. SugarSync's also offering a 75 percent discount on its subscriptions for a limited time.

The changes—some long overdue—make SugarSync more competitive in the storage wars with big players like Google Drive and Dropbox. A major one is the new, consolidated view of all a user’s folders—those that they've added to SugarSync, and those shared with them by other users—that makes it easier to find and interact with them in one place. That's a convenience even Google Drive can't boast.

The retooled app also gives the user greater control over who can view and edit files and folders. Users can send view-only files or just links to specific documents to collaborators. New “Public Links” and “Shared by Me” tabs offer a simple way to see and manage which files have been shared with whom.

SugarSync's redesigned desktop app let's you see all your folders in a single view.

SugarSync has also surfaced file and folder details—such as who owns a file or folder, where it’s located, and which ones are shared—in an at-a-glance style across the app.

“Our customers really care about control and access, so we reimagined the cloud experience with the intention of being better than anyone else at solving those particular needs,” CEO Mike Grossman said in a released statement.

SugarSync is currently offering 75 percent off the cost of an annual subscription to first-time individual or business customers. The discount brings the price for consumer plans as low as $18.75 for 60GB per year, and for businesses, $137.50 for three users and one terabyte of storage per year.
