We hear a lot about 3D printing these days, mainly about how 3D printers are getting closer to mainstream. But given the fact that 3D printers still cost over $1000, we're probably still a ways off from seeing 3D printers in every household If 3D printing sounds cool but dropping $1300 does not, check out this new iOS app by Sculpteo that lets you--literally--turn your face into a vase.
Sculpteo's new iOS app is for people who want to try out 3D printing but don't have a single clue about how to go about creating 3D models. It's the first 3D printing app of its kind, and it's free to download from the App Store.
There are a few different products you can customize using photos of your face, including iPhone cases, mugs, and of course, vases. Using the app is simple: just take a photo of your profile (or someone else's), and your image is instantly converted into a 3D object. You can then manipulate the image, choose what type of object (mug, bowl, vase) you want your image to be emblazoned on, and have it printed and shipped to you.
Sculpteo uses a special process to "print" your items in ceramic, though you are able to choose different colors and materials. Sculpteo's prices start reasonably low at about $50 and go up to about $450, depending on what you print.
