The Berlin Boombox is a Kickstarter project by Axel Pfaender; it's a iPhone speaker dock that's styled to resemble an old-school boombox. What's particularly significant about the speak though is that it's made entirely out of cardboard. This may sound a little strange, this actually has a number of benefits--it's easy to store away, it's lighweight, and it's recyclable.
The technology behind the cardboard speaker is relatively straightfoward--that is, anyone can assemble it. The boombox has an intregrated amplifier for producing stereo sound, the two speakers, batteries, a stereo jack and a big, aluminium button for volume control. Pretty simple, huh?
Axel is currently looking for funding on Kickstarter, and a $50 pledge will get you first in line for a black-and-white version of the boombox. The more you pledge, the cooler the colors and design become. Axel will even make your own custom design if you pledge upwards of $250.
This project may seem a little strange, but for one guy wanting to make use of his passion for music and design, it's a novel idea. Whether or not you'd want a cardboard iPhone boombox, though, is another matter. Check him out below explaining the Berlin Boombox in more detail:
