Ever leave the house only to realize that you left the over on? If so, this new oven from AGA will put your mind at rest, as you can control it via text message.
The oven, which goes under the ever-so-hip-and-trendy ‘iTotal Control’ moniker, comes with its own SIM card and phone number, ready to take instructions via SMS. The new cooker understands a number of text requests, allowing you to turn on (or off) certain sections of the pricey $15,000 (£10,000) oven. The iTotal Control oven will then text you back to let you know that it received and understood your instructions.
If texting isn't your thing, you can also control the iTotal Control via a Web-based control panel or mobile app for Android and iOS.
So, what’s the downside to all this added functionality? Right now, this high-tech stove is available only in the UK, and the built-in SIM card requires its very own phone contract. Seriously--if you want the luxury of setting your dinner to cook as you are on the way home, AGA requires you to sign up for a 12-month contract, which will set you back around £5 (around $9) a month.
Cool features and cost aside, this oven offers a vision of the near future where we can have text conversations with our appliances, but only for a price. Hmm, having text relationships with both your fridge, thermostat, oven and washing machine could soon get expensive...
