ESPN is throwing its weight behind Pebble with a new score tracking app for the smartwatch.

The ESPN app lets you track two games at once on Pebble's 1.26-inch display. It'll occasionally vibrate with game and score updates, though you can also flick your wrist to update the game's status immediately.

Pebble first announced the ESPN app in January, while also revealing the high-end Pebble Steel. It's unclear why the app has taken so long to arrive, but at least it's here in time for the NFL season.

Pebble users already have a couple of other ways to keep an eye on sports scores. If you have a sports score app on your phone, any notifications on the phone should also show up on Pebble. You can also set up the Pebble Cards app to always show the latest score from your favorite team.

But ESPN's app goes a bit further by letting you keep an eye on any score from any league, so it's useful if you're looking to keep track of more than just a few favorites. On the downside, the app doesn't include any customization, so users always have to wade through some menus to find the teams they're looking for.

The bigger problem, at least for some users, is that the app doesn't work at all. Several users on Pebble's forums report seeing a blinking error icon whenever they load the app, and I'm having the same issue on my Pebble with both an iPhone and Android phone. Hopefully ESPN will correct the error in time for the NFL's regular season kickoff.
