Samsung is reportedly about to launch yet another Galaxy Gear smartwatch, this time with a curved display.
PocketNow claims to have all the details on the purported Galaxy Gear 3, though the site doesn't reveal much about its unnamed source. If the report is accurate, the Gear 3's display will be rectangular, but not as long as the one on Samsung's Galaxy Gear Fit. However, the display will reportedly have a more pronounced curve, and the side bezels will be much narrower.
The source further claims that Samsung is removing the camera this time around, but adding a cellular radio. It's unclear whether this is the same watch as the “Gear Solo” with integrated SIM card that was rumored to be in development earlier this year.
If you're keeping score, the Gear 3 would be Samsung's sixth smartwatch since last September, when the company launched the original Galaxy Gear. Since then, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Gear 2, the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo (which features a slightly different design than the Gear 2 and no camera), the fitness-minded Galaxy Gear Fit and the Android Wear-based Gear Live.
For any other company, the rumor of another watch in such a short time span might be implausible. But Samsung has a track record of promptly replacing perfectly good gadgets with slightly better ones. Given the lukewarm reception for previous Gear watches, another do-over doesn't seem so crazy.
