It isn’t unusual to see characters and secrets leak ahead of a game’s release, but what we’ve seen leak from PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has been exceptional. It's almost to the point where we know more from the leaks than we do from official announcements, and that's why we’re going to break down what we know and what it means for the game as we approach release.

The leaks are coming from NeoGAF users who have access to the closed beta and have dissected the files contained within it. It should be noted that all players participating in the beta are ostensibly under NDA, so they aren’t allowed to speak of anything that's actually in the beta, but (luckily for us) that hasn’t stopped them from finding every tidbit of information contained within the code.

According to the leak, we have some really interesting new characters added into the mix. Here’s the entire list, so far:

  • Big Daddy(BioShock)
  • Colonel Radec (Killzone)
  • Dante (DMC)
  • Evil Cole (Infamous)
  • Fat Princess (Fat Princess)
  • Good Cole (Infamous)
  • Heihachi (Tekken)
  • Jak & Daxter (Jak & Daxter)
  • Kratos (God of War)
  • Nariko (Heavenly Sword)
  • Nathan Drake (Uncharted)
  • Parappa the Rapper (Parappa the Rapper)
  • Raiden (Metal Gear Solid)
  • Ratchet (and Clank?) (Ratchet & Clank)
  • Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet)
  • Sir Daniel Fortesque (MediEvil)
  • Sly Cooper (Sly Cooper)
  • Spike (Ape Escape)
  • Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal)
  • Toro (Sony Icon)

That’s a pretty solid list of characters, representing every generation of Sony games past and present. Sure, some fan favorites like Kat from Gravity Rush are missing, but this list isn’t final. This is just a list of the characters that have been confirmed through a beta leak or official announcements. Of course, these won’t all be available from the start, but they will be unlocked by playing through the story mode.

Speaking of story mode, this leak also provided us with a list of possible modes. It can be assumed that some of these are match modifier conditions, similar to stock and time matches from Super Smash Bros. but there’s also some interesting modes contained within:

  • Arcade Mode
  • Capture the Flag
  • Challenge Trials
  • Character Trials
  • Countdown Attack
  • Free Roam
  • General Trials
  • King of the Hill
  • LAN Game
  • Solo Play

That’s a wide variety of modes so far, but we expect that there will be more in the final release.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this leak is the stages that were revealed. 14 stages were present in the leak, including a few that we’ve already seen.

  • Alden’s Tower (Infamous)
  • Black Rock Stadium (Twisted Metal)
  • Columbia (BioShock Infinite)
  • Dojo (Parappa the Rapper)
  • Dreamscape (LittleBigPlanet)
  • Franzea (LocoRoco)
  • Hades (God of War)
  • Invasion (Killzone)
  • Metropolis (Ratchet & Clank)
  • Paris (Sly Cooper)
  • Sandover (Jak & Daxter)
  • San Francisco (Resistance)
  • Stowaways (Uncharted)
  • Time Station (Ape Escape)

This list of levels really is a commitment to the stories of PlayStation past. We’ve got stages from classics like Parappa the Rapper and Ape Escape while also bringing in some of the lesser-known titles like LocoRoco. That's a big deal because it may help bring in fans of the different eras of PlayStation.

There’s more to the leak scattered through the NeoGAF thread as more information continues to leak out, so be sure to check back for more updates as we approach the October 23rd launch of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
