Google+ is adding a new feature called Collections to its social network, and there’s a good chance it will look pretty familiar.

Collections serve as a mashup of favorite photos, videos, and posts around a specific topic that you select.

It certainly draws some inspiration from Pinterest, in that your collections are focused around a topic and available for others to follow. Your collections can be public, private, or shared with a select group of friends.

Google announced the feature Monday, and it’s making the usual staggered rollout to its social network. You’ll need an update to the Google+ Android app to start using it on your phone or tablet. Once you grab it you’ll see Collections available from the drop-down menu, right below your Communities and Circles.

Once you create one, Google says your profile will include a tab that links to your newly-created collections.

The story behind the story: This is the new feature to grace Google+ since head Vic Gundotra left the company last year. New chief David Horowitz hinted that it may unbundle many of its features, like Photos. It’s already begun that process with that, adding a dedicated Google Photos section to Google Drive. We expect more adjustments going forward now that Google is trying to repurpose its Google+ features.
