HP Spectre 13.3 in stock trim
HP just debuted its new Spectre 13.3 laptop in Versailles, France, at the New York Times International Luxury Conference. The laptop is definitely sexy, and HP claims its the thinnest in the world (you can read our hands-on impressions of it here). But you know what? It’s still not luxurious enough for some folks. To catapult the Spectre 13.3 into the upper echelons of high-end, HP tapped two internationally renowned designers to give the Spectre some unabashed glitz.
Nice keyboard, but still pretty pedestrian
Here's the standard keyboard on the Spectre. Note the typeface on the keys, then flip to the next screen. If you really want to get in the mood, just play this YouTube video in the background as you go through these slides.
If you aren't humming "Goldfinger" right now, you're missing something
The 18K gold keys and deck are fully backlit and feature a script font. The power button on the upper left is studded wth diamonds. Yes, gold and diamonds. It's like designer Jess Hannah had a Shirley Bassey album looped in the background.
Diamonds are forever
HP claims its new Spectre 13.3 is the thinnest laptop in the world, but this special edition made for a charity auction is a bit thicker thanks to the hand-set diamonds in the lid's logo.
Your MacBook is gold? That's cute
You know what's really awesome? Sliding in between two people at the cafe. One has a gold Dell XPS 13 and the other a gold Apple MacBook. Then bam, you bust out your 18K Jess Hannah-edition HP Spectre 13.3. Pretty soon, they just pack up their laptops in shame and start reading the newspaper.
Signed, sealed, delivered
Los Angeles-based designer Jess Hannah gave the Spectre 13.3 its swanky style, authenticated with her imprint. HP says a very small run of the laptops will be auctioned off to benefit the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Proud as a peacock
London-based designer Tord Boontje's treatment for the limited edition Spectre 13.3 features a design of 18K gold cherry blossoms, a peacock, and a butterfly that are all intertwined with Swarovski crystal flourishes.
Color us Beadazzled
Here's a better look at the Swarovski crystals embedded in the lid of this limited-edition HP Spectre 13.3. The background color of the lid is midnight blue. And no, you can't achieve this same look with craft glue and a bag of rhinestones.
Custom-cut keyboard deck
Note the speakers on the keyboard deck of the HP Spectre 13.3. Those aren't just gold overlays. HP actually produced a small run of custom keyboard decks for its limited-edition Spectre 13.3 that feature the Tord Boontje designs.
Not too good for Thunderbolt 3.0
The HP Spectre 13.3 will still feature Thunderbolt 3.0 and USB Type C ports along with its Swarovski crystals.
