Nokia has taken the spotlight for everything Windows Phone lately, but at least one carrier is offering a last hurrah for those still using HTC and Samsung Windows Phone devices.
Piggybacking on this morning’s Windows Phone 8.1 announcement, Sprint quietly announced in an email that it plans to update the HTC 8XT and Samsung Ativ S Neo this summer. The carrier said it will provide additional details closer to the date of availability, but the news rings positive for those users who took a chance on Windows Phone devices made by manufacturers other than Nokia. The carrier, along with HTC, announced support for the HTC 8X on Reddit back in February.
Ever since Microsoft announced its intent to acquire Nokia’s devices business late last year, speculation has flown as to whether Microsoft, or the carriers, would continue to support non-Nokia Windows Phone devices. Many have held out hope, especially since companies like HTC had hinted they’d continue to support their Windows Phone devices, even if it’s no longer a target market.
We’ll continue to update you as other carriers announce Windows Phone 8.1 availability to their non-Nokia devices.
