According to YouTube, most of the country can’t wait for season six of True Blood to begin.
But there are a few exceptions, as highlighted by a new tool called YouTube Trends Map. The website shows a map of trending YouTube videos around the country, along with demographic breakdowns by age and gender.
It’s a neat tool for finding out how regional YouTube videos can captivate nearby users. For instance, while HBO’s True Blood throughout the United States, certain parts of the country are tuning into local happenings:
A few regions in Northern Texas and Oklahoma are captivated by Taya Kyle’s speech at an NRA-ILA leadership forum. Kyle’s husband, a U.S. Navy SEAL, was shot and killed in February at a gun range.
Trends Map also shows how tastes change by gender. Women, for instance, have practically ignored a clip from a recent episode Family Guy, and are much less interested than men in a bad lip reading of Walking Dead.
YouTube’s Trends Map could get really interesting if it rolls out to the rest of the world. For now, it’s United States-only, but YouTube says to “stay tuned for updates.”
