Love it or hate it, Instagram has some pretty cool photo filters. Of course, those filters prove quite tedious to replicate using traditional desktop image software like Adobe’s Photoshop. If you like the filters on the app but would like to use them elsewhere at the click of a button, a photographer might just have the answer.
Casey McAllister reverse-engineered the popular iOS and Android app to turn the filters into actions and presets in Photoshop, Aperture, and Lightroom. Casey decided to make the sets due to a number of clients requesting him to edit their photos “like on Instagram”.
Sadly, Casey doesn’t divulge into how he made the presets, but he did manage to get all 17 filters from the app working in the three imagery programs. Judging by the photos, each filter looks pretty similar to photos produced in the app, although the filters with blue hues could look a little bluer. That said, Casey’s versions look a little less over-exposed, which improves the overall quality of the image.
You can download all 17 filters from Casey’s website for $5, and you can check out his gallery which compares his results to those of Instagram.
