Aquabotix ‘s HydroView is a remote controlled vehicle, capable of recording 1080dp video and getting HD photos underwater. It ‘s equipped with LED lights, so never fear about filming down in the deep sea. In the case of losing something in a lake, you pop the vehicle in the water, and live stream the video straight to your iPad or computer–which incidentally also act as controllers.
HydroView will last for around three hours before needing a recharge, and moves at five knots, or one knots in reverse. In non-boating terms, that’s a very slow 5.8mph, and 1.8mph backwards. Although I guess if you want some decent camera footage, these are the speeds you work with.
Aside from the slow speeds, HydroView will also set you back $3995: quite pricey for an underwater camera rig.
While it’s a pretty random gadget to hook up to your iPad, the results are actually pretty cool, especially close up. It’s also a pretty useful vehicle to have around if you’re studying the seabed, or needing extra proof to back up data. It’s like the consumer’s version of the robotic fish, and that’s an incredible water robot, right?
