Zumobi Network’s SportingNews NCAA Football (NCAAF) Android app is perfect for keeping up with your favorite NCAA football teams.
The app’s main screen is clean and simple. At the top is a small box that shows the latest stats for your selected teams, alongside a gear-shaped button that takes you to the Settings menu.
You can choose your favorite teams through the Settings menu: Just type the team’s name into the search box, or search by conference. The search box itself is a welcome feature, especially considering how NCAA teams are jumping conferences left and right these days. Once you’ve picked your teams, you can configure notifications for each one and go immediately to the team’s “home page” (where you can see the team’s schedule and news) via the app’s main screen.
The main screen also houses a box that shows the latest NCAA football headlines. Four additional buttons–Scores, Twitter, Polls, and Standings–live below the headline box.
The Scores button brings up a screen in which you can see all of the scores for the latest games (you can sort them by Top 25 teams, or by conference). The Polls button displays the latest Top 25 poll results from the Associated Press and from USA Today/ESPN, and the Standings button shows you where each team stands in its conference. The Twitter button takes you to the SportingNews NCAAF Twitter feed.
What’s nice about this app is that it gives you in-depth information for each game: Click a game (via the Scores page), and you’ll see a scoring summary, box scores, and the SportingNews recap (assuming that the game is over, of course).
The app is a little slow, and it has ads that pop up and cover most of the screen. Additionally, I would have liked it if SportingNews had included rosters on the team home pages, but it’s somewhat understandable that such details aren’t present (the NCAA has a lot more teams than the NFL does, after all). Nevertheless, this is an excellent app for keeping up with the latest college football news.
