The Sony PlayStation Vita goes on sale in North America and Europe today, but can it succeed in a handheld gaming market dominated by smartphones and tablets? The PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS each offer unique features that can’t (yet) be duplicated by smartphones or tablets, but neither can match the ubiquity or utility of an Apple handheld device.
