Google’s Cloud Print service, which lets people print out documents remotely over the Web, has been linked with FedEx Office establishments in the U.S.
Now, Cloud Print users will get the option of printing out documents at FedEx Office Print & Go self-service devices at about 1,800 locations across the country.
When a print job is sent to a FedEx Office store, the user gets a retrieval code that can then be used to print out the file on site.
“So if you’re on a business trip to California, you can submit a report for your colleague in New York to print out at the neighborhood FedEx Office,” wrote Google software engineer Paolo Ferraris in a blog post.
Google also announced that it has added Canon to the list of vendors that have integrated their printers with Cloud Print, automating and simplifying the process for users to link those printers with the Google service.
Also new is the ability to send documents to Android 4.0-based phones or tablets using Cloud Print. This requires users to install the Chrome for Android browser. Sent documents appear in PDF format in the Android devices.
Google originally developed Cloud Print as a way to provide printing capabilities to its Chromebook laptops, although the service isn’t limited to those Chrome OS machines.
