The TRON: Legacy inspired keyboard comes by way of Christian Cantrell, a Product Manager and Application Developer for Adobe’s Web Platform team. To create the keyboard, Christian used two iPads, along with some common Web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
The video below shows the virtual keyboard in action, along with a typing test and Christian’s conclusions on the project:
As Christian explains, he made a few additional modifications in an attempt to enhance the typing experience, including adding bumps onto the screen where the F and J keys were located to help make typing a little more tactile. Despite his best efforts Christian wasn’t overly pleased with the results adding that it was “more fun to prototype” than to actually use.
Sigh, they always make it look so flawless in the movies…
Christian shared the source code for the project on Github, so if you want to try your own TRON-style typing experience, be sure to check it out.
