The biggest change you’ll notice in the new Facebook app for Android is the notifications bar, which is now at the top of the screen. Like its iOS counterpart, the bar hosts your friend requests, messages, as well as notifications, so you can reply to messages without leaving the page you are on.
The new menu navigation is very similar to the iPhone app, too. By tapping the three-line button on the top-left, you reveal a sliding panel that gives you quick access to News Feed, Groups, games and app. Meanwhile, in the photo app, Facebook made improvements to tag people, edit captions and view photo comments.
Under the good, the new Facebook app for Android is now based on the same platform as the iOS app. This means that developers can link to their apps straight from the Facebook app. So for example, if you play Words With Friends on Facebook (online), when you select the game from within the new app menu, the actual game from Android Market will be opened on the phone. As first seen in the new iOS Facebook app, if you don’t have the game already, you will be prompted to download it.
