You’re going to have a hard time finding a more well-received game in 2011 than Skyrim, the fifth installment in Bethesda Softworks’ Elder Scrolls series. It’s an RPG that drops you in a vast, fantastic world and affords you free reign to do pretty much whatever you feel like. Buy houses, brew potions, become the Archmage or just hunt bandits; no matter what you’re into, chances are you can find plenty of interesting things to accomplish in Skyrim.
And like a lot of games, Skyrim rewards players with a variety of Achievement awards for completing specific tasks. But many fans hardcore fans think the default Achievement list is incomplete, and that might be why a recent Reddit thread devoted to fan-made Achievements caught fire. Soon all sorts of Skyrim fans joined in, thinking up their own and adding unofficial Achievements that range from the extremely clever to the downright goofy. Chasing these communal Achievements is a great way to have a little extra fun with Skyrim; here are a few of the ones we like most:
The Naked Nord – Complete the main quest line while wearing nothing. 50 points.
You Shall Not Pass! – Use Unrelenting Force on a Flame Atronach while wielding a staff and/or a Great Sword. 10 points.
Underworld – Kill a Vampire while in Werewolf form or kill a Werewolf while under the effects of Sanguinare Vampiris. 5 points.
The Van Helsing – Pickpocket 10 Vampires and put Garlic into their inventory. 50 points.
And my personal favorite…
Long John Silver – Kill a Mudcrab with a fork. 10 points.
The goofy list has grown long and you may find sifting through the Reddit thread to find the good stuff a little tedious, so check out Skyrim fan Elle Cooke’s blog. She’s strained the best 25 Achievements from the thread like great pasta from the pot and served them up in an easy-to-read format.
Naturally, as unofficial achievements, you won’t get any in-game treats for completing them (aside from Reddit bragging rights, whatever that’s worth). So why attempt them at all? “Let’s face it,” Cooke says. “We’ll have to keep ourselves busy with something until the expansion comes out.“
