As seen on Plastic Pals via Tech Crunch, a massive 4-meter (13-foot) tall robot is currently under development by the Japanese group, complete with a built-in cockpit that should fit an average-sized person. It seems a bit too ambitious, but HRI President Hajime Sakamoto is apparently known for building impressively large machines. After all, his company completed a walking, remote-controllable 2-meter tall robot just a couple years ago.
As the project continues, Sakamoto will be providing updates on the company’s official blog site, on its Facebook page, and also via periodic YouTube videos.
Sakamoto’s current goal for his company is to eventually build a robot that’s much taller than 13 feet. Japan’s most famous machine, the 18-meter tall Gundam, is actually a gigantic statue with no real moveable parts, something that Sakamoto hopes to change in time for the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebration in 2019.
When that happens, we can all officially start running for our lives.
(Approximate scale of Sakamoto’s project to the size of a Gundam shown below.)
