Verizon’s Jetpack Global Ready 4G LTE mobile hotspots, debuting at CES 2012, let you take 4G Internet with you to 205 countries and 125 countries at 3G speeds. Hopefully this will eliminate waiting for an empty seat in a crowded Internet cafe to connect to work, or paying astronomical bills for using your hotspot in a different country.
Verizon’s 4G LTE network claims download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits-per-second and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps. The OLED devices support HSBA and Quad Band Edge technology for multiple connection options, and will accommodate up to 10 devices so a number of people can use each hotspot at the same time.
The Verizon Jetpacks have built-in WEP/WPA/WPA 2 security that will allow them to access secure corporate VPNs, so your field employees should be able to get through to their computers without long calls to IT to get set up.
The small dimensions of the Verizon Jetpack MiFi 4620L by Novatel–3.8 by 2.8 by 0.5 inches–allow it to fit into a shirt pocket, as should the Verizon Jetpack EuFI890 from ZTE at 3.5 by 3.5 by 0.7 inches.
Thse will be sold in Verizon stores in the United States, and online within the next few weeks. Pricing isn’t yet available.
